Alike: the Goya-winning short film that depicts how we crush creativity

Alike is a short film by Daniel Martínez Lara and Rafa Cano Méndez that illustrates how we turn our children from 1bundles of creative energy 2brimming with ideas into duplicates of ourselves with no initiative in the belief that we are educating them.

In 2016, it won a Goya for best-animated film after being shown at film festivals around the world and now the directors have decided to 3upload the entire film onto internet so that more people can see it. So far it has had more than 5 million views.

The film was made with a free online program called 3-D Blender which helped the directors keep within their €60,000 4budget. They do not expect to make any money from it. But they are glad it has been such a success – even the Ministry of Education has put it on its database so that teachers can show it to pupils in schools.

This seems to miss the point 5somewhat. But hopefully those 6in charge of making the school curriculum, 7as well as teachers and parents, are also watching.
